The Casla river, which fronts the Lodge,was noted in the past for its prolific run of sea trout as well as both spring and summer salmon. Spring salmon enter the fishery from February, with grilse starting to run in May. The salmon fishing is best from June and it fishes well after a flood. In this part of the world, you will never find yourself too far away from the great Atlantic Ocean and a beach visit should certainly be a part of your Connemara experience. Trá an Dóilín in An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe) is an outstanding beach.  It is known for its white coral and blue waters and is a great place for swimming and snorkelling. Trá an Dóilín is a Blue Flag beach with a lifeguard on duty in the summer months.  This beach is situated approximately 6km  from Costelloe Lodge
